SOLSTICE is a high quality bread-making wheat (nabim Group 1) that is popular with millers because of its relaible milling characteristics. It has performed very consistently in commercial usage and is straightforward to grow.
Solstice has produced high yields in both treated and untreated trials.
Solstice has produced high yields across all HGCA regions of the UK. It has proved to be a reliable variety in trials, performing close to its UK mean yield when sown as a first or second cereal, and across a range of soil types and seasons.
Although Solstice is a relatively tall strawed variety, it has excellent lodging resistance. Solstice also has very good resistance to sprouting. |
Y = Suitable for that market (Y) = May be suited for that market. Solstice is a nabim Group 1 variety with excellent milling characteristics producing high rates of flour extraction and appealing white flour, offering growers the potential for milling premiums in the domestic market. Solstice can also meet the specifications of the export market giving growers a choice of premium market outlets.
Solstice has good resistance to Septoria tritici and Fusarium ear blight, important for a quality variety. The development of mildew and eyespot will require monitoring, especially in early sown, thick crops and brown rust should be catered for where this is historically a problem. A new race of yellow rust developed during 2009 which can attack Solstice (and other varieties). Crops should be carefully monitored for this disease and the use of a broad-spectrum seed dressing considered in high risk situations.
